Our Pave, 2024 - Local Roads Project is underway. The following schedule, weather-dependent, is provided below. Police Officers or Traffic Personnel will be on-site to assist motorists thru or around the work area(s). We ask motorists to plan ahead for possible delays, etc.
DPW Update 4/16/24: Milling Toby’s Lane, West Hills Road, and Reeder Lane Wednesday, 4/17/24: Complete above roads and mill Laurel Road (from Canoe Hill to Turner Hill). Paving beginning Thursday, 4/18/24, or Friday, 4/19/24 Day 1 Danforth Lane and Lantern Ridge Day 2 Pond View Lane, Laurel Road and Begin Indian Rock Road Day 3 Indian Rock Road Day 4 West Hills Road and Reeder Lane Day 5 Toby’s Lane. All work is weather-dependent. We will be posting changes on X, Instagram, and the Town's Everbridge System. Please register for Everbridge to receive these postings.
DPW Update 4/16/24: Laurel Rd between Canoe Hill Rd and Turner Hill Rd will be closed today, Tuesday, April 16th & tomorrow, Wed. April 17th, during working hours for an emergency replacement of a culvert crossing Laurel Rd. Traffic is detoured onto Valley Rd & Ferris Hill.
DPW Update 12/22/23: We are pleased to announce that the Ponus Ridge Bridge over Collins Pond is open for traffic. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during the closure. We wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Holiday and New Year!
DPW Update 12/11/23: Cherry Street from South Avenue to Main Street will be closed to westbound traffic Monday, 12/11 and Tuesday, 12/12 for a water service line installation. Please allow time for delays or find an alternate route.
DPW Update 11/27/23: Paving tomorrow, Tuesday, 11/28/23: Leslie Lane and Whitney Avenue. Then begin overlays of the following roads: Little Brook Road, Millport Avenue and Harrison Avenue. Please plan additional time in case of delays or find alternate routes.

DPW Update 11/8/23:
Harrison Ave 36-inch Pipe Installation Status Update (SWRP 2-1 Project)
The contractor will begin prepping the site this week for the repair. An engineered shoring system needed to be designed, reviewed, approved so that the work can be done safely by staff and to avoid damage to any of the numerous utilities (gas, sewer, communication, power, storm) in the immediate area of the work. All the necessary equipment arrived onsite between Friday, Nov. 3rd and Monday 6th.
It is a very complex repair. We anticipate the work taking 1 wk. +/-. Once this repair is made, the waterline will be retested and if it passes then work on this section of the pipeline will be completed (except for disinfecting the pipe sometime next year which will not have any impact). The contractor is scheduled to retest the pipeline immediately after the repair is made. If it fails, we will locate the point of failure and make repairs to that section of pipe.
This section of pipe is a small portion of approximately 27,000 feet of pipeline being installed by Aquarion over the next 2 years in Wilton and New Canaan; the contractor is currently working in Lakeview Cemetery on the section of pipe that will connect to the piping on Harrison Ave. This section of pipe will be installed via a tunnel at the intersection of Main Street & Harrison. We do not anticipate any impact to traffic on Main Street; however, traffic turning right from Main to Harrison will be impacted by the pending construction.
A 15’ x 15’ trench (in Town ROW) will be excavated to connect the pipe from the Lakeview Cemetery to the pipe on Harrison Ave. This work is expected to be completed by end of 2023, weather permitting.

DPW Construction Update 10/26/23:
The Aquarion Watermain Project and Eversource Gas Project on Rte. 106 is nearing closure for this season. From the contractor: “Pipe installed and filled up to Carter Street. Chlorination from Littlebrook to the 72” pipe on Rt106 complete. Pressure test on that section Friday. Milling and Paving of Rte 106 from Clapboard Hill to Carter Street will begin next week.” The project will then be shutdown for the winter and resume next spring to install pipe and gas main from Carter to the Wilton line at Valley Road. Work to cross the bridge into Wilton will be completed in 2025. Work on South Avenue from Harrison to Waveny Park will be performed in 2024 and 2025 during the summer months only. DPW Update 10/20/23:
Due to the weather there will be no milling or paving today. Paving to resume Monday, 10/23/23 on Locust Ave, Grove St and Maple St.
DPW Update 10/18/23:
The following roads will be paved Friday, 10/20/23 and Monday 10/23/23 weather permitting in the following order: Locust Ave, Grove St, Maple St, Main St, Oak St and Kelley Green. Please make arrangements to avoid delays.
Construction Update for 8/4/23:
Bridge Closure: The Bridge on Ponus Ridge at Collins Pond is under construction. THE ROAD IS CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC. Motorists must use the posted detours. The closure shall be in effect until mid-December. Clearview Lane and Ponus Ridge House #s 1328 – 1510 can be accessed from the South via Ponus Ridge past Greenley Road. Access to Toby’s Lane, Rippowam Road, and Ponus Ridge House #s 1528 and Above must follow the detour and access from the north via Dans Highway.
Road Resurfacing/Repaving for 8/4/23:
Our initial round of Road Resurfacing Projects which included Mill and Pave, Cracksealing, Cape Sealing and Micro-Thin Overlays have been completed. Harrison Avenue and Upper Main Street (Maple to Cherry Streets) as well as the roads currently under construction for other infrastructure projects (water, gas, and electric installations) are planned to be repaved beginning on or around September 15, 2023, or when available post-installation. Please contact the DPW at (203) 594-3054 for specific questions on the maintenance and upkeep of our road system.
Sidewalk Installation for 8/4/23:
Sidewalk installation has halted on Oenoke Ridge/Main Street (Rte. 124) from Oenoke Lane to Heritage Hill for the next several weeks. Work shall resume shortly and continue thru to completion.
Sidewalk replacement has begun on Elm Street from Park Street to the Train Station entrance (and beyond.) Work shall take approximately 3 weeks. Alternating one-way traffic will be in effect or a short lane closure which will be determined based upon safety of the motoring public and the work zone.
Sidewalk construction is scheduled to begin on Richmond Hill Road (from the Mead Park Exit to Marshal Ridge) on or around 8/16/23. Work on the portion crossing the railroad shall be performed initially in order to capitalize on the railroad closure.
Aquarion Water Main Update for 8/4/23:
Lakeview Avenue: Main installation is complete. Work is slated to be completed (including service tie-ins by mid-August.) Road closures should be expected. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.
Orchard Drive: Main installation has been completed. Work is slated to be completed (including service tie-ins by mid-August.) Road closures should be expected. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.
Weed Street: Dunning Road to West Road: Main installation has been completed. Work is slated to be completed (including service tie-ins by mid-August.) Road closures should be expected. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.
West Road: Sunset Hill Road to Greenley Road: David Tinker Excavating is continuing to replace watermains on Weed Street from Dunning to West Roa. Work is slated to be completed (including service tie-ins by mid-August.) Daily road closures should be expected. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.
Aquarion 36” Water Transmission Line Update for 8/4/23:
School in Summer Recess: July to September:
Burns Construction will be installing a 36” Water Transmission Line followed by a gas main in Little Brook Road proceeding from New Norwalk Road to Clapboard Hill Road. The road will be closed to traffic. Local Traffic should use posted detours.
NOTE: Little Brook Road (from Clapboard Hill to the entrance of East School) will be closed to ALL traffic for approximately 1 week beginning on or around 7/31/23. Access to Rte.106/Silvermine Road from Clapboard Hill will be maintained and East School can be accessed via Rte. 123/New Norwalk Road.
Burns will also be installing the 36” Water Transmission Line followed by gas main in CT-106/Silvermine Road heading northeast towards Carter Street from Little Brook Road. Local residents with homes on the detour, emergency vehicles, and school buses will have access through the detour at all times.
School in Session: September to December:
Work along Little Brook Road will be complete - including crossing the intersection of Little Brook/Clapboard Hill/CT-106.
Work will continue progressing towards Valley Road operating under the attached detours. Eastbound thru traffic on CT-106/Silvermine Road will be permitted to access Clapboard Hill/Little Brook. Local residents with homes on the detour, emergency vehicles, and school buses will have access through the detour at all times.
Eversource Gas Installation Update for 8/4/23:
Work on several individual services will be performed on an as-needed basis. Any major work in the downtown will be scheduled at night.
Eversource Electric Installation Update for 8/4/23:
Eversource will continue work preparing for an electrical upgrade to the downtown area. Work on the vaults on Elm Street, Park Street and Main Street will be performed after the sidewalk sale (July 21 and 22.)

Aquarion Update: 7/12/23:
Aquarion reports a planned outage on Lakeview Avenue tomorrow 9/13/23 at 9am for 6-8 hours. If you have cloudy water after the event please run your cold tap until it clears. If problem exists please call Aquarion Water.

Milling and Paving:
Our initial phase of Road Paving has been completed for this season, thank you for your patience, cooperation and understanding.Harrison Avenue, Lakeview Avenue and Millport Avenue have been delayed due to installation of watermains and gas mains. We will look to repave these roads hopefully by the end of the construction season.
Cracksealing:

Lakeview Avenue: David Tinker Excavating has completed replacement of the watermains on Lakeview Avenue from Main Street to Millport Avenue. Work remains regarding pressure testing and chlorination of the lines. Work is slated to be completed (including service tie-ins by mid-August.) Daily road closures should be expected during service lateral installations. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.
Orchard Drive: Main installation has been completed. Service transfers will be completed by the end of July.
Weed Street: Dunning Road to West Road: The water main and services have begun and be completed by mid-August. Daily road closures should be expected during service lateral installations. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.

School in Summer Recess: July to September:
Burns Construction will be installing a 36” Water Transmission Line followed by a gas main in Little Brook Road proceeding from New Norwalk Road to Clapboard Hill Road. The road will be closed to traffic. Local Traffic should use posted detours.
Burns will also be installing the 36” Water Transmission Line followed by gas main in CT-106/Silvermine Road heading northeast towards Carter Street from Little Brook Road. Local residents with homes on the detour, emergency vehicles, and school buses will have access through the detour at all times.

Work along Little Brook Road will be complete - including crossing the intersection of Little Brook/Clapboard Hill/CT-106.
Work will continue progressing towards Valley Road operating under the attached detours. Eastbound thru traffic on CT-106/Silvermine Road will be permitted to access Clapboard Hill/Little Brook. Local residents with homes on the detour, emergency vehicles, and school buses will have access through the detour at all times.
Eversource Gas Installation Update for 7/7/23:
Work on several individual services will be performed on an as-needed basis. Any major work in the downtown will be scheduled at night.
Eversource Electric Installation Update for 7/7/23:
Eversource will continue work preparing for an electrical upgrade to the downtown area. Test Pits will be performed on Forest Street and Upper Elm Street following the Holiday. Work on the vaults on Elm Street, Park Street and Main Street will be performed after the sidewalk sale (July 21 and 22)

SWRP Detours
Milling and Paving:
Our initial phase of Road Paving has been completed for this season, thank you for your patience, cooperation and understanding.
Harrison Avenue, Lakeview Avenue and Millport Avenue have been delayed due to installation of watermains and gas mains. We will look to repave these roads hopefully by the end of the construction season.
Cracksealing:

Sidewalk Installation:
Sidewalk installation will continue along Oenoke Ridge/Main Street (Rte. 124) from Oenoke Lane to Heritage Hill after the Holiday. Work should take another two (2) weeks to complete. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic in certain areas.
Aquarion Water Main Update for 6/30/23:
Lakeview Avenue: David Tinker Excavating is continuing to replace watermains on Lakeview Avenue from Main Street to Millport Avenue. Work is slated to be completed (including service tie-ins by mid-August.) Daily road closures should be expected. Local Traffic and Emergency Vehicles will have access.
Orchard Drive: Main installation has been completed. Service transfers will be completed by the end of July.
Weed Street: Dunning Road to West Road: The water main and services will begin shortly and be completed by mid-August
West Road: Sunset Hill Road to Greenley Road: The water main and services will begin after the work on Weed Street and are projected to be completed by mid/ end of September.
