The New Canaan Recreation Department will be sponsoring Adventure Academy as a new summer day camp for children ages 4-6 born in years 2002 or 2003 to be held at the South School.
Adventure Academy is a program in which children go on a new learning adventure each day, using adventure skills to explore and discover more about themselves and our world. Daily topics will include any of the following: our country; the post office; nutrition and exercise; outer space; money- coins, paper and banks; weather; cooking; theater and drama; world of Dr. Seuss; safety; forms of transportation; and the ocean and it’s inhabitants. Campers will begin with learning how to be an adventurer through gathering information, using the five senses, and learning from each other. A craft project will be included in each day along with songs, storytelling and a physical activity.
The program will be directed by New Canaan resident Lindsey Wilczynski, certified elementary education teacher with a background in literacy education and theatre from Vanderbilt University.
Adventure Academy is being offered for the first time and is held from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Six one-week sessions of camp will be scheduled beginning June 23 through August 1 for parents to choose which fits best into their schedules. Each week enrollment is limited 10 children open to New Canaan Residents only. The fee is $125 per person per one-week session and registration is currently open at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House.
