The New Canaan Recreation Department has announced they will offer a Youth Spirit Program called High Flyers Cheerleading to begin in February 2008.
The High Flyers Cheerleading Program is open to girls in grades 7-8 and will be held from 2:15-3:30 p.m. at the Saxe Middle School Gym on Fridays beginning February 1 and continue through April 4 (no class on 2/22, 3/21) The program is being offered as part of the Middle School Choices programming for Saxe Students.
Instructed by Margaret DiMauro, New Canaan High School Varsity Cheerleading Coach, High Flyers is offered once per week and students will quickly learn and review beginner and intermediate cheer/gymnastics skills. High Flyers will learn more difficult cheers and choreography, as well as new and exciting pyramids and partner stunts. Beginning tumbling skills will be reviewed and strengthened through various drills and exercises and new skills will include running tumbling and more advanced skills such as back handsprings and back tucks. Lesson plans will incorporate lots of strength training and conditioning as well as fun team-building exercises. All of these skills will be incorporated into an entertaining, skill packed performance routine at the end of session. This class will truly prepare any High Flyer for high school cheerleading.
Registration is currently open at the Recreation Department Office for a program fee of $200. per person. The program is open to New Canaan residents and a class minimum must be reached to offer the program. For more information contact the Recreation Department 594-3600. |
