Rockin Guitar Lessons from the Recreation Department

The New Canaan Recreation Department has announced they will offer both Beginner and Step Two Intermediate Youth Guitar Lessons beginning in January 2008.

Beginner Class- come learn to play the guitar in this new 8-week program beginning January 10, 2008 for 3-8 grades (dates subject to change per Saxe MS scheduling). The Thursday afternoon program will have grades 5-8 meet from 3:00-4:00 and grades 3-4 meet from 4:00-5:00 at the Saxe Middle School Room 151. This class will start you on your way to enjoying music and playing the guitar. You don’t even have to own a guitar, one will be provided for you by the instructor for each and every class! Take-home rental guitars are also available for students to practice their new talent in their home. Each of the eight- one hour classes will provide a high level of group instruction in a fun and cooperative atmosphere. Learn cords, scales and theory and best of all, learn to play your favorite songs! Instructor Shane O’Reilly is an accomplished musician who each week demonstrates the versatility of the guitar to his students through live performances.

Intermediate Step Two Class- is for those who have completed the beginner class or have a demonstrated skill base beyond the beginner level. The Monday afternoon program is open to grades 5-8 beginning January 7 – March 10 (no class Jan. 21, Feb. 18) from 4:00-5:00 at the Saxe Middle School Room 151 (dates subject to change per Saxe MS scheduling) . Instructor Josh Auchterlonie will take students through live performances to the next level with more chords and more great songs. Guitars will be available free for students use in the classroom in addition to take-home rental guitars.

The program is open to New Canaan residents for a fee of $180. per person. Registration is currently open at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House and for more information call 594-3600.
