| The Town of New Canaan operates eight regulation Har-Tru tennis courts at Mead Park. Two of the courts are lighted for night play. All players must have a current year permit to use the courts. Permits are available to New Canaan residents and all guests on the courts must play with a permit holder. Weather permitting, the courts are open from May through October. Reservations for the use of the courts may be made up to one day in advance in person at the tennis courts or over the telephone. Preference for the use of the courts shall be given to adult and senior citizen permit holders on week days after 5:00 p.m. and all day Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. The Town also maintains an all-weather court and practice court at Mead Park which are available for use all year. Permits are not necessary for this court. Permits for the 2008 season are available to New Canaan residents and must be obtained in advance at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House, as no permits will be sold at the courts. Permits- a new permit process includes a photo identification card. A photo of each individual will be taken at the time of registration. This Photo ID Card must be presented to the court attendant before each use with no exceptions. Card holders must present their Photo ID Card to sign in a guest. The lost pass/reprint fee is $5. The purchase of a Tennis Pass may only be made in person at the Recreation Department Office in Waveny House. To purchase a pass, proof of residency must be presented for each individual purchasing a membership pass in the form of a driver's license or current utility bill. Proof of age is required for individuals under age 18 or age 62 and older in the form of a driver's license, birth certificate, or valid passport. The fee must be paid by check, cash or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) at the time of registration. Permits go on sale the first week of April.

Weekdays - May through August 15: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. - August 18 through October: 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays - May through September 1: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. - September 6 through October: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Permit Fees (These permits entitle the individual the privilege of using the courts at Mead Park for the 2008 season.

Permits for Mead Park Tennis Courts - Any bona fide New Canaan resident will be entitled to a tennis permit upon application to the Recreation Office, submission of satisfactory proof of eligibility, and payment of the fee required.
- Adult Permit: This permit entitles eligible adults (age 18 and over) the privilege of using the courts at Mead Park for the season.
- Youth Permit: This permit entitles eligible youths (age 17 and under) the privilege of using the courts at Mead Park for the season, weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and at other times when the courts are available.
- Senior Citizen Permit: This permit entitles senior citizens (age 62 and over) the privilege of using the courts at Mead Park for the season.
Guest Privileges - The one time daily guest fee is $5.00 and must be paid BEFORE PLAYING ON THE COURTS. This fee enables a guest to play anytime that day with a permit holder.
- All guests must be signed-in with the attendant on duty before play.
- All guest must be accompanied by and play on the same court with a permit holder.
- Guests must show dated receipt each time they play.
Methods of Obtaining a Court There are two methods of obtaining a court. NOTE: ALL COURTS ARE UNRESERVED FROM 8:00 a.m. UNTIL 9:00 a.m. , DAILY. 1. Reserved Courts - Six courts are on a reservation system (time may be reserved one day in advance of play).
- Telephone reservations will be taken AFTER 8:30 a.m. UNTIL 7:00 p.m., except on rainy days when 4:00 p.m. is the cut-off time.
- Reservations may be made in person with the attendant at the courts AFTER 9:00 a.m.
- A permit holder may reserve only one court per day.
- The Mead Park tennis courts telephone number is 203-966-4570.
2. Unreserved Courts - Two courts are available to permit holders on a first-come, first-served basis as courts become available for play.
- These courts may not be reserved over the telephone. Walk up reservations only.
- A permit holder may sign up for only one court.
- A player whose name and permit number appears on the unreserved court sheet may sign up for a second court after play has been completed.
Cancellations - All reserved and unreserved courts must be canceled at least two hours prior to court time, or the following penalties will be incurred: (Tennis Court phone number 203-966-4570)
- First Offense . . . . . . . . . .May not obtain a court for 2 days
- Second Offense . . . . . . . . . May not obtain a court for 2 weeks
- Third Offense . . . . . . . . . .Revocation of permit
General Policies - The Tennis courts are to be used by permit holders and their guests.
- Court time changes on the hour on all eight courts.
- At the time of signing in, all permits must be shown to the attendant BEFORE BEGINNING PLAY. Any guest fees must be paid at this time.
- Players must take their court on the hour when it becomes available or forfeit the court. A court becomes a forfeit ten minutes after the hour.
- While changing from an assigned court, players must first check with the tennis court attendant.
- Weather permitting, the courts will open each day 8:00 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays May through October. The courts close each day:
- Unlighted- 8:00 p.m. May through August. - 7:00 p.m. September through October.
- Lighted - 9:00 p.m. May through August. - 7:00 p.m. September through October.
- Youth permit holders may play any time with an adult or senior citizen. Preference in reserving a court will be given to adults and senior citizen permit holders, weekends, holidays and after 5:00 p.m. weekdays.
- Any person caught playing on the courts while they are closed (i.e. rain, maintenance) will be asked to leave and will lose playing privileges for the remainder of the season.
- Because of the disturbance created by excess chatter and the number of extra balls going onto adjoining courts, private instruction may only be given during the following times: Weekdays: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Weekends: noon to 5:00 p.m. During these times, player are limited to the use of six balls on their court.
- ALL PLAYERS SHOULD BE PROPERLY ATTIRED AT ALL TIMES. THEY MUST WEAR SHIRTS AND MUST WEAR PROPER TENNIS FOOTWEAR AS APPROVED BY THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT ATTENDANT. RUNNING, JOGGING OR BASKETBALL SHOES ARE NOT PERMITTED.
- Any Player or Players who create a disturbance, use inappropriate language or throw equipment while using the courts will be subject to disciplinary action. These penalties may range from suspension of playing privileges to having their permit suspended for the season.
- Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the tennis courts.
- Children not participating in the game ARE NOT PERMITTED on the courts.
- Minimum of two players per court when people are waiting.
- Each court must be occupied by at least one permit holder
- Mead Park traffic is one-way (enter from Park Street and exit onto Richmond Hill Road). The upper parking lot is closed to all vehicles weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
- The Park and Recreation Commission reserves the right to change any of these regulations during the season. These changes, if any, will be posted at the tennis courts.
