Inland Wetlands
What We Do
The inland wetlands and watercourses of the State of Connecticut are an indispensable, irreplaceable, and fragile natural resource with which the citizens of the State have been endowed. The wetlands and watercourses are an interrelated web of nature essential to:
- An adequate supply of surface and underground water
- Hydrological stability and control of flooding and erosion
- Recharging and purification of groundwater
- The existence of many forms of animal, aquatic and plant life
The preservation and protection of the wetlands and watercourses from random, unnecessary and unregulated uses, disturbance or destruction which is in the public interest and is essential to the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of the Town.

To obtain a review of your proposed project by Staff, email a written description, along with any plans, surveys and photos, including contact information to: Kathleen.holland@newcanaanct.gov
A reply with additional guidance will be provided as soon as possible.
APPLICATION Filing Instructions:
If Staff determines a wetland application is required, you will receive an application wetland checklist to follow.

For Commission Review applications only, please provide one complete paper copy of your wetland application to Town Hall by mail or hand delivery.
COMMISSION REVIEWS and MEETING DETAILS:
If application submittal is complete and filed in a timely manner, your application will be scheduled for the Commission’s Agenda. All statutory deadlines apply. Schedule of meetings
Commission Meetings are hybrid and held in-person and via zoom. The zoom link appears on the Meeting Agenda, posted online a minimum of 24 hours prior to the meeting.
